The Effingham City Police Department was established in 1867. Currently, 21 sworn officers and 16 civilian empoyees serve the City.

A message from Mike Schutzbach, Chief of Police

As Chief of Police, it is my duty to provide through the officers and staff of the Effingham Police Department, professional, high quality and effective police service in partnership with the community. The officers of this department actively participate and support the efforts of community policing through a permanent beat system to achieve the proper balance between enforcement and the diverse needs of our community.

The Effingham Police Department also extends a variety of services to the citizens of Effingham by conducting several different crime prevention programs for groups throughout the City. By conducting these programs, Effingham Police Department is able to recognize the changing needs of the community and adjust its response through enhanced training and continued education.

The Effingham Police Department will continue to serve the City of Effingham in an ethical, impartial, courteous and professional manner.
